Cricket: Coalfields Cup round five

By Mark Bercini

BELLBIRD to the outright lead for this year’s Coalfields Cup, after a convincing 69-run victory over Greta/Branxton at Miller Park.

With all of the other matches washed out, the Tigers took full toll of their good fortune.

They were sent in to bat and accumulated nicely to post 9-228 from their forty overs.

Jason Orr continued his stellar season form with the bat by making 68.

Joey Main (28), Ben Fairlie (27) and Joey Millington (14) were all productive.

But it was Veteran Rob Drage who stole the show and really took the game away from Greta/Branxton, with cavalier 72 from just 25 deliveries in an entertaining innings that included seven maximums.

Brent Watson (4-40 off 10) and Cliff Newling (4-62 off 8) were the main wicket takers for the home side.

The Blue’s batting woes continued and were all out after 32 overs for 159.

Nathan Holz (34), Darren Holz (24), Darren Thomson (20) and Brent Watson (16) all made starts without pushing on.

Joey Barber was the pick of the Tiger attack with 5-60 off 10, with Billy Orr chipping in with 2-14 off 4.
